My Top 3: Books To Encourage Mothers

Motherhood is one of the best things I’ve ever been a part of or experienced. The love that I have for my babies just blows my mind sometimes. Getting to nurture and love, laugh with and enjoy little humans that look like me and my husband is the best thing ever.
But with that being said, motherhood is a lot of pouring out. It’s a lot of giving and sacrifice, and a lot of times it can make you feel unappreciated…especially if your little ones are very young and don’t even know how to use a spoon much less notice if mommy is having a rough day!

This is where a good, encouraging book can really help. So here are my top three books to offer you mommas in the trenches some encouragement!

1. Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full

This is one of my all time FAVORITE books. Seriously, I’ve read it at least three times and it is my go-to gift for new moms. I think I’ve bought at least 10 of these books for my friends.

My older sister sent this to me when I had Rhett and even though I didn’t have a ton of time to sit around and read, I could finish a paragraph at a time and it was SO life giving. Gloria Furman basically preaches the gospel to your soul. And for me that was huge. It reminded me to keep my focus on the bigger picture when I was feeling overwhelmed with all of the new changes a baby had brought.

2. Loving The Little Years

I recommend this one for mothers who have toddlers. I read it when Rhett was a baby and it was good then, but after he was two I picked it up again and seriously had several “HALLELUJAH” moments while I read it. (ha)

I love Rachel Jankovic’s perspective because she wrote this while her kids were still little. So everything is fresh and relevant and also very funny. I also appreciated the practical aspects of her stories. I gained a lot of ideas for how to deal with different issues from her.

3. Give Them Grace

Now I’ll be honest and say I haven’t completely finished this one. But I’m over halfway done and it has really given me a much needed perspective on parenting with grace.

I am naturally a legalistic person in nature and I love rules and routines. But I do not want to pass this onto my kids and force them to mold into their mother’s idea of Christianity. I want them to be overwhelmed by Jesus and His love for them, and from that learn to obey what He calls us to do. Not to obey because they are afraid of the consequences if they don’t.

So this book really gives a wonderful perspective on how to do just that.

So I hope you’ll take a look at these books and I pray they bring you the amount of encouragement they brought me. Let me know any others you would add to the list or if you are a fan of these books as well!
